- If you see a modem that's cheep (often referred to as "el-cheepo" in here)
- then it may not be very good. That's because the OEM (such as Zoom, Supra,
- to name but two well established modem companies) have not invested time
- and research into producing firmware, PCB layout, case/display design
- which configures the Rockwell-supplied chipset to best standards.

- And being an el-cheepo they've not invested in a decent handbook, packaging,
- technical support, ROM updates, upgrade policy, and warranty either. In UK
- such el-cheepos are often advertised as "Rockwell", coz vendors know full
- well that to use the, often made up, bland name, is to invite ridicule. But
- that in turn tarnishes the chipset maker's name. Which result's in the urban
- myth you repeat
